Customer approaches the till

The device camera automatically detects a face. The customer does not need to do anything: no clicking, no moving closer, no touching the screen.

MyCheckr estimates the age

In age verification mode the algorithm analyses the image in a fraction of a second. It does not identify the person or store the image. It only estimates whether the customer appears to be above the configured age threshold (e.g. 18 or 25), then the image is discarded.

Clear signal for the cashier

Green light – the customer appears to be of age, the sale can proceed normally. Red light – ID check is recommended.

Age verification and GDPR

In the age verification mode described on this page the device estimates age anonymously and does not process biometric data within the meaning of GDPR. The responsibility for ensuring GDPR compliance rests with the device operator. It is their procedures and configuration that are assessed, not the hardware itself. The age verification mode holds an ACCS certificate.

In the age verification mode described on this page, MyCheckr estimates age from the camera image but does not identify the person and does not store any data. The image is processed locally on the device and discarded immediately after the result is given. The device does not create a biometric profile. This is confirmed by the ACCS (Age Check Certification Scheme) certificate.

It is worth noting that GDPR compliance obligations always rest with the device operator. It is their procedures and configuration that are subject to assessment, not the hardware itself. Devices in this family can operate in different modes; with each deployment the operator should assess the scope of data processing in their own environment.

No. The entire algorithm runs locally on the device (edge computing). An internet connection is only needed for optional features such as software updates or remote fleet management via the MyConnect dashboard. Day-to-day age verification requires no internet.

MyCheckr powers up after connecting the power supply. Physical mounting takes around 15 minutes. MyCheckr Mini only needs to be plugged into a USB port. Configuration (age threshold, display mode) is carried out remotely with ViewPro support or by your own team following our documentation. In most cases the device is ready to use the same day.

Yes. The age threshold is fully configurable: any value can be set such as 18, 21 or 25. Many UK and European retailers use a Challenge 25 policy, which MyCheckr supports natively.
